I've made two attempts today to send the following message to
[log in to unmask]; both have been returned. That address is listed here:

http://www.tei-c.org/Consortium/contact.xml

Is it no longer valid? For now I'll have to send this message to the
list at large:

Hello,

I am taking a serious look at P5 for the first time. My organization
currently makes very heavy use of the P4 system for customizing the TEI
to enforce local markup practices. For us, the single largest hurdle in
moving to P5 would be translating our customizations to P5 (far greater
than converting instance documents or even updating our tool chain).

As I begin to investigate this area, I am surprised to see that chapter
29 (Modifying and Customizing the TEI DTD) has not been updated for P5.
As a result, information on how practically to customize the TEI using
the preferred P5 method (creating an ODD document) must be gleaned from
other chapters such as 3 (The TEI infrastructure) and 27 (Documentation
Elements, which includes a couple of simple examples). While this is
doable, I think it's certainly fair to call it non-trivial. There is
also document EDW88 (The TEI P5 ODD How To), but this document is very
brief, and the only schema it describes simply includes modules, without
any modification of existing elements or attributes.

Is an updated chapter 29 currently in the works? If so, is there a
target date for its release?

Thanks very much,
Greg Murray
