CREATING A DIGITAL CORPUS:
THE ENCODING OF SOURCE MATERIALS WITH SGML/XML
Utrecht, Netherlands, 11-12 June 1999
This workshop is organised by the Institute for Information Science
(formerly Department of Computer and Humanities) of Utrecht University.
A gentle but intensive introduction to SGML/XML will be offered to a
restricted number of participants with a background in the humanities.
The workshop consists of a series of practical exercises based on a
number of sample documents. Taken together, these exercises will span
the entire digitisation process from document analysis to distribution
on CD-ROM or through the Internet. Essential SGML/XML theory is treated
in the introductions to the exercises.
This workshop is meant for:
- those who (wish to) work with digitised source materials in
humanities research or teaching in higher education
- those who are involved in policy-making in the area of
digitisation
- those who are engaged in the design and realisation of
digitisation projects in libraries, archives and museums
Thanks to a subsidy from IWI, the participation fee for this
workshop is limited to DFL 250 (113 Euro). More information can
