REGISTRAR
The Muscarelle Museum of Art at the College of William and Mary seeks an
experienced professional to fill the full-time position of Registrar.
Responsibilities include the organization, maintenance and supervision of
all collections records, files and the Museum's computerized collections
management information system (Re:discovery). The position also involves
responsibilities for the preparation of documents and the administration
associated with accessioning, deaccessioning, cataloguing, loans, packing,
inventory, insurance storage and shipping. Monitoring activities
associated with collection care and overseeing the preparation of art work
entering or leaving the Museum are also characteristic duties of the
position. The Registrar is expected to be knowledgeable about current
professional museum policies and practices.
Requirements: Three years of museum and collections management experience;
a bachelor's degree in art history, museum studies or related field
(master's degree preferred) and experience with variety of computer
applications utilizing a windows platform with digital imaging
capabilities. The qualified candidate will be detail-oriented, energetic
and willing to work collaboratively with other museum staff members.
The Muscarelle Museum of Art is an AAM accredited institution with a
collection of approximately 3,800 art objects, a staff of 9 (plus numerous
student interns) and an active temporary exhibition and public program
schedule. The Registrar's position reports to the director. The salary
and benefits are competitive.
