Announcement of Meeting on the Revision of the TEI Guidelines
Regarding Characters and Character Sets
UC Berkeley, October 27-28, 2001
While the revisions to the TEI Guidelines (P4) have not yet seen the
light of day, work is already underway to define major work items
and areas that need further development for the next major
revision. One of these areas is the intersection of markup with coded
character sets, an area that has seen some dramatic changes with the advent of
XML and ISO10646/Unicode. The informal TEI work group that has considered these issues over the past two months has decided to meet face to face in order to prepare a list of proposed work items in advance of the
upcoming TEI members council. This meeting will be held at UC Berkeley
on Saturday-Sunday, October 27-28, 2001. Also participating in the
meeting will be Unicode officers Rick McGowan (Unicode Vice President)
and Ken Whistler (Unicode Technical Director/ U.S. representative to
ISO WG2) and other local experts. Topics will also include discussion of a revision to the
Writing System Declaration and the LANG attribute (vs. xml:lang).
A detailed agenda will be circulated in advance of the
meeting. For those unable to attend, notes from the meeting
will be posted. The meeting will be chaired by
Christian Wittern, the local host will be Deborah Anderson.
For those interested in attending, please contact the local
organizer (D. Anderson at [log in to unmask]) as
