I am sure a number of you, like myself, were edified greatly by that
piece Michael Beddow wrote the other day on spaces and UTF-8.

Since I suspect he may not be inclined to announce this himself (if I'm
wrong, sorry Michael!), and since it is really quite a useful piece, I
