The US is very strange about that. It's mainly coming from the tobacco
and alcohol industries (Anheuser Busch, the world's largest beer
distributor, and RJR Reynolds, the world's largest tobacco products
manufacturer) that don't want the competition. Bush Jr is in every
CEO's back pocket, so it's not really a surprise. I think the general
sense of Bush's attack on government is to dismantle every program the
last 8 years of the 20th Century has come up with and begin again with
his father's "utopia."
