Hi there,

I have a question about the "double endpoint attachment" method of
attaching apparatus to a base text. It is unclear to me from the P4
guidelines section 19.2.2 whether the "from" and "to" attributes have
to refer to the baseline text or may one or both refer to text within a
<rdg> element? This case could arise in cases of corrections or open
variants in autographic manuscripts. I see no reason why it could not
also occur occasionally in multiple manuscript texts as well. The
guidelines explicitly state that "the beginning and end of the lemma in
the base text are both explicitly indicated", which seems to imply that
it is not possible.
