why would this make any difference? if you want special characters, you need Unicode regardless. maybe you mean that Word saves this using UTF16 encoding, and
program does not like that?

But I think we need more information to give a proper answer. I don't
what the input
to the Concordance program is, and what it can or cannot deal with
