If you only need a tool to write and test regexes, I seem to remember
that The Regex Coach was quite good at that:
<http://www.weitz.de/regex-coach/> (Linux and Windows). There is also a
commercial tool called Regexbuddy that does similar things to the
Coach, but I haven't tried that. (Their policy is: pay first, try
later, which is too cumbersome for me.)
