FWIW, Saxon.NET apparently does run under Mono, so you could use it in more
or less any environment. (Mono at least *is* open source, its development
spearheaded by Miguel de Icaza, of Gnome fame.)

That might of course change post Rec status, but even if so we're unlikely
to see its implementation any time soon.
