I had a new experience yesterday. I broke a spoke on my fairly new bike.
I don't know exactly what may have caused it, but I could hear something
in the spokes, so stopped immediately and saw the broken spoke. I
couldn't remove it, so just wrapped it around another spoke and finished
the ride home. It popped off at the rim.

Can anyone comment on what usually causes broken spokes - especially on
fairly new wheels? The bike shop said "it just happens - like flat
tires". It could have been a turn - a bump - etc.

Any thoughts??
