OK, I'm a few years behind, I know, but I finally began to make the
attempt, this week, to begin working with P5 instead of P4. But after
an exasperating few days of utter failure in getting anything at all
to work with my style sheets, I am just about ready to give up and
just forget about P5 altogether.
Of course P5 based on an out-of-the box template in oXygen comes
working wonderfully with the TEI style sheets. But I am unable, with
these, to figure out how to change the most elementary template
settings (like, how can I stop having "A TEI Project" appear at the
top of every document? Or where can I change the attributes for
paragraphs, etc., to do indents, blockquotes, etc.?).
I found this,
...but could not find here the kind of basic style attribute
information I am looking for or in which .xsl file I should make the
And when I copy the TEI P5 style sheets out of the oXygen directory to
work with them in a directory close to my documents, they don't work
In any case, I would be much happier if I could migrate my own style
sheets to P5, since I've been refining them for my own purposes for
I've searched through the TEI site, and all over the XSL and XML sites
over the web for any small sample or tutorial on migrating one's style
sheets from P4 to P5, and am amazed that I am unable to come up with a
single thing. Is it the case that nothing like this exists?
I have been told at a couple of conferences and seminars that all I
need to do is "add namespaces." I tried adding tei: to all of my
template declarations, but that did nothing.
So: Does anyone know if there is anywhere at all on the web, or in a
book, where there is some kind of basic documentation as to how to
make this style sheet transition?
If not, I am wondering if anyone on the list would be willing to take
a look at my style sheets, and give me some clue as to what I can do
to migrate these for P5 usage? If I can succeed, I will document the
process and put in on my web site for others.
I have uploaded this small package to my web site:
which contains the following files:
hindrances_yogacara_tathagatagarbha-p4.xml (a small document in P4)
hindrances_yogacara_tathagatagarbha-p5.xml (a small document in P5)
art-trans-web.xsl (the main XSL file, which links to the remaining)
The P4.xml file will generate the type of HTML that I want with my
sheets (although not valid XHTML). The P5.xml file will work
wonderfully with the TEI style sheets. But I would like to be able to
use my own sheets. Any advice will be deeply appreciated.
