New TEI-L Files Available on Fileserver

               **********************************************

The TEI office is pleased to announce that the following files are
now available from the TEI-L Fileserver:

  Filename Filetype Title
  -------- -------- ------

The first four files pertain to the content, structure and
distribution of P2, the second version of the TEI Guidelines.

EDJ6 MEMO A Note on the Contents and Structure of P2
           GML

EDJ7 MEMO Obtaining Electronic Versions of P2
           GML (For TEI-L Subscribers)

EDJ8 MEMO Obtaining Electronic Versions of P2/
GML How to Subscribe to TEI-L

EDJ9 Memo Obtaining Paper Copies of P2
           GML

The following three files are basic introductions to SGML and TEI.

EDW25 LATEX What is SGML, and How Does It Help?
[This will be available in MEMO format in coming weeks.]

EDW26 TEX Introduction to the TEI
[This will be available in MEMO format in coming weeks.]

TEIJ16 MEMO An Overview of the Text Encoding Initiative
           GML (Revised, February 1992)

TEI J16 and TEI ED W26 have slightly different emphases. TEI J16
describes the origin, history and structure of the TEI, while
TEI ED W26 explores in more depth the conceptual issues underlying
the TEI. Both are useful for background on the TEI.

As described in TEI ED J7, TEI ED J8 and TEI ED J9, TEI P2 will be
placed on the fileserver in sections, or fascicles, in the coming
months, unlike TEI P1 which was only available in hard copy.
Announcements of the availability of these fascicles will be made on
TEI-L, and requests may be made electronically to the TEI offices in
Chicago and Oxford.

A number of other TEI Working Papers are already available from the
source and more will be added in the coming weeks.

Files are available in a number of formats (see TEI ED J7, TEI ED J8,
and TEI J9 for filetypes specific to TEI P2):

MEMO: ASCII, easy-to-read on the screen

GML: Waterloo GML adjusted by TEI macros (available from TEI)

LATEX/TEX: Marked-up in LaTeX or TeX.

If you have difficulty obtaining files from the fileserver, please
contact Wendy Plotkin at [log in to unmask] or [log in to unmask]
