I think that in practice, we are very often obliged to write the lemma 
"by hand". Typically when it is long (more than 3 words in my scripts) 
you write "first word \ldot lastword" ; therefore, I am not convinced 
that an elegant solution is that much needed ! (in case you compute the 
tex or latex automatically at least).
But perhaps, I did not get exactly what you meant by lemma there...
