Bike To Work Day Celebration Tomorrow

In case you've missed the announcements, Tomorrrow (Friday) is Bike to Work
day.

Certainly for many here bike to work day is every day, tomorrow is a
celebration of that fact and you can get some coffee, bagels and say hey to
the rest of the commuters.

National Bike Challenge - could use some more help

All,

I happened to be looking at some stats on the National Bike Challenge
website. We have 10 valiant riders representing Brown University so far
and we are placed #146 out of 4,494 workplaces that have logged any
points. One of the great things about this challenge is EVERYONE can
provide a significant boost to our score. You get 21 points, every time
you get out on your bike and ride just 1 mile! Consistency is what this
is all about. Even with a little effort, you can make a big difference. [...]

As usual we will put together a Commuter "train" coming in from the East
Bay Bike path for those who want a social way to start/recognize the day.

If anyone commuting in from other directions wants to set up a 'group' ride
in to the celebration that would be great, speak up, or ride down and join

in search of volunteers to help us make the race go smoothly. Right now we

about the next steps we should be taking as an organization...

Okay, So first act of arm twisting is to get everyone to set up an
Endomondo account (if you don't have one already) and start logging your
commuting miles for the RIBike Team in the National Bike Challenge this
year.

I did a test run and yes, if you use something else to keep track of your
commute (Strava for example) you can run them all at the same time, so no
need to do much more than hit go as you leave your destination, let the app

I agree with the lawmaker - cycling increase CO2 output.

Therefore, let's make it fair and tax people on each pound of CO2 emitted
and see how motorists will feel about that.

Tour de Cure

Passing on info about a charity ride:

The Ocean State Tour de Cure is a charity bike ride to benefit the American
Diabetes Association on June 2. The med school is putting a team together,
anyone is welcome to join.

Routes range from 7 to 100 miles. As a team member, you will be responsible
for fundraising at least $200 by the day of the event. You will also be
charged an initial registration fee of $25. [...]

From 2010, but still a nice affirmation that those who ride to work miss
fewer days that those who don't.

Could just be correlation without causation, either way, commuting by
bicycle is good.
