Job Title: Teacher/Advisor
Organization: The Met
Location: Providence, RI
Salary: commensurate with experience
Full Time
Permanent

Job Description
-------------------------------------------
Are you brave, passionate, and creative?

Do you want to be a pioneering teacher for meaningful education reform?

The Met, a public high school in Providence, Rhode Island, has moved
beyond tinkering at the margins of school change. We are now six
small schools and we are seeking dedicated teachers to join our
unique community.

What does The Met offer you as a teacher?

-- Dedicated Staff: Met teachers know their students well, stay with
them for all four years of high school, and coach them across a wide
range of subjects.

-- Deeply Personalized Learning: Every student has a unique,
project-based curriculum that is determined by his or her interests,
needs, and learning style. All assessment is based on student
exhibitions and extensive teacher narratives.

-- Diversity: The Met has 40% teachers of color, more than any
district in Rhode Island, and our students offer highly diverse
cultural and academic backgrounds.

-- Working for Change: The Met is part of a growing movement for
social change through school reform. Four Met-inspired schools
opened in 2002 and more will open in 2003.

-- Local Control: Met teachers are at the center of important school
decisions and have outstanding opportunities to develop their
professional skills.

-- Success: All of our graduates have been accepted to college, even
though 70% will be the first in their family ever to attend.

-- A Great Place to Live: Providence has been ranked "Best Place to
Live in Eastern USA 2000" (Money Magazine) and "Top Ten Most
Enlightened Towns" (The Utne Reader). Rhode Island offers great
cultural attractions, low housing costs, easy commutes, and close
access to urban, rural, and coastal living.

How to Apply
-------------------------------------------
To apply: Send a resume, 2-3 letters of recommendation, and a letter
explaining why you want to teach at the Met. To help us get to know
you, please also include a drawing of yourself as a teacher (pencil,
crayon, paint, etc.) and a writing sample (on any topic from any time
in your life).

Mail to: Ms. Sam Grabelle, Recruitment Coordinator, c/o The Big
Picture Co., 275 Westminster St., Providence, RI 02903. No phone
calls please.

Note: Please mail all application materials together. Due to the
large volume we receive, only completed applications will be
considered.
