The Special Needs/Mental Health Coordinator will work with local school departments to arrange developmental screenings for all children enrolled in program, complete developmental screenings when necessary, ensure that at least 10% of the total Head Start enrollment is children with special needs; maintain necessary records for children with special needs as outlined by the Federal Head Start Performance Standards; ensure Head Start attendance at MDT/IEP meetings, work closely with Head Start staff to ensure proper plans and support services are in place for children with special needs to be successful in Head Start classrooms; work closely with children and families to support IEP goals; complete observations and consult with classroom staff regarding children with suspected/diagnosed special needs, behavioral interventions and mental health concerns on a regular basis; make referrals to LEA and metal health programs; arrange and participate in transition meetings with scho
ol departments. Conduct staff trainings and facilitate parent groups. Bachelor’s Degree Early Childhood, Special Education or other related field required. Experience working with children with special needs/behavioral challenges preferred. Full time position-school year schedule.
