The Department of Emergency Medicine, Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center seeks faculty to implement the creation of the Division. PLFSOM is a new medical school developed out of a regional campus of TTUHSC. The Department staffs the emergency department of University Medical Center El Paso, and will staff the adjacent pediatric emergency department of El Paso Children's Hospital, now in construction. Opening of the Pediatric emergency department is expected in fall 2011 with opening of the Children's Hospital expected in spring 2012.
PLFSOM has fully accredited residencies in Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics/Gynecology and 5 other specialties. Residents from both Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics will rotate through the Children's Hospital emergency department.
University Medical Center of El Paso is a level I trauma center. The emergency department has 60,000 visits annually of which 20% are pediatric patients.
El Paso Children's Hospital is a new free standing non-for-profit hospital with 122 beds, all private Pediatric rooms , 50 Neonatal Intensive Care bassinets, 22 Pediatric Intensive Care beds, one floor dedicated to Pediatric Hematology/ Oncology, 4 dedicated Pediatric operating rooms, Pediatric rehabilitation, and outpatient and inpatient Pediatric imaging, and Pediatric emergency department.
Director, Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine
The director of the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine will be expected to complete recruitment of faculty, serve as medical director of the Children's Hospital emergency department, and lead academic and educational activities of the division. The successful candidate will have a proven academic and clinical record, appropriate to appointment to the Associate Professor or Professor level. Board certification in Pediatric Emergency Medicine or equivalent qualification is required.
Faculty, Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine
Successful candidates will have a proven interest in academics and clinical medicine. Candidates may have board certification or eligibility in Pediatric Emergency Medicine with primary certification from either the American Board of Pediatrics or the American board of Emergency Medicine. Those with ABP certification will cover only the Pediatric Emergency Department, but those with ABEM certification may work in the adult emergency department if desired. Appointments will be at the Assistant Professor level or above as appropriate.
