What does everyone do with infant deaths and allowing parents to hold the infant wrapped in a blanket with ET tube, IO, NG etc still in place before police and ME arrive? It seems to be such a contentious issue with the ED staff wanting the family to be able to hold the baby and grieve, and the detectives and ME not wanting anyone touching the baby until their exam has occured - oftentimes a few hours later.
Any recommended policies? What does everyone do at their places?
Thanks for input.
