My experience as a resident in the pediatric heme-onc clinic is that
premedication with IV diphenhydramine reduces the amount of midazolam and
fentanyl needed to achieve adequate sedation for bone marrow aspirations and
lumbar punctures. Has anyone else tried this approach in the ED or
elsewhere? I haven't seen any studies on this.
