We are embarking on a research effort to do a detailed study of the
epidemiology of unintentional injuries in children - the circumstances, the
host and environmental factors predisposing to injuries. This is mainly
with the aim of identifying strategies for injury prevention in the local

such information although we have started a Pediatric Trauma Registry
capturing data only for those admitted for major trauma. Injury
Surveillance for the purpose of Injury prevention is clearly different and
requires a slightly different set of data.
Does anyone have any experience to share in terms of setting up such a
database? E.g.Something like CHIRPP or TIPP.
I would appreciate advice specifically on any available computer software
that may be available, and if not, what sort of existing standard database/
research software e.g. MS-EXCEL, MS -ACCESS, SPSS would you recommend
that we build our database on?
In the Pediatric ED alone, we see more more than 7000 kids annually for
