The Division of Emergency Medicine at Children's Hospital in Boston is
recruiting two faculty with board certification/eligibility in Pediatric
Emergency Medicine. These positions are primarily suited for physicians
pursuing a clinical career with a desire to join a large, professionally
diverse group of pediatric emergency physicians practicing at the
cutting edge of the subspecialty.
Both positions are based 80% in the pediatric emergency departments of
affiliated general hospitals in the Boston suburbs, serving
approximately 15,000 children annually. Coverage includes evenings and
weekends but no overnights. The remaining 20% of the shifts are at
For these positions, the faculty appointment will be at Harvard Medical
School. Faculty will be expected to participate in the educational
programs of the division and will have the opportunity, if so desired,
to engage in research independently or with a mentor.
Currently, members of the division staff the pediatric emergency
departments at Children's Hospital, MetroWest Medical Center, South
Shore Hospital and Winchester Hospital. A new site is currently under
consideration. In addition, the faculty attend on the Short Stay Unit
at Children's Hospital. There are 32 senior faculty, 5 junior faculty,
and 12 fellows. Areas of research concentration include the diagnosis
and treatment of infectious diseases, the pathophysiology of septic
shock, toxicology, trauma, medical informatics, vaccine development, and
the genetic basis of the immune response to acute infections.
