As fas as I know there is no tool which does this out of the box, but there are some tools which
allow you to map word styles to xml elements, but you have to do the mapping yourself. One of
them, which I find especially useful, is upCast from infinity-loop (http://www.infinity-loop.de/). They
provide an evaluation copy on their website and the product is free for non commercial use (the
website is in English). Actually the way to go is always the same: You have to use word styles very
consistently and then you convert the word/rtf file to an xml instance. There are some problems:
1) you can't check in word whether you have applied your styles in such a way that a valid teilite
document will result.
2) word uses a flat hierarchy, so you may loose information if you want to markup a not very
simple document this way.
Maybe a postprocessing with xslt stylesheets will help.
