I am still in search for a good open source xml database which allows to store large xml files and
has reasonable retrieval times. The best I found until now is eXist (http://exist.sourceforge.net/).
eXist, programmed in Java, has an own storage backend but also allows the use of databases
like mySQL. It is integrated with Tomcat and Cocoon and changes to its user interface can be
done without programming knowledge just by changing the stylesheets. It uses Xpath as query
language and has added some extensions to enable the usual text retrieval capabilities. Maybe
this would be an interesting candidate for the CD? One could even adjust it to include the
complete TEI recommendation with an user interface ;-)
