Kevin Hawkins has raised in this thread (joined by Francois Lachance)
both a general issue and a specific problem, both of which are
important. They are "which takes precedence, the prose or the DTD",
and "shouldn't the content model for <publicationStmt> be stricter",
I will address each issue with a separate post, each of which will be
a reply like this one but with a new subject field.
Warning: the post on <publicatinStmt> is quite long; those only
interested in how we should fix this should jump straight to the "P5"
section at the end. Note also that I will not directly address the
specific discussion of the content model of <publicationStmt> that
has occured so far in this thread, as
a) I can't tell when they're talking P3 vs. P4
b) I already had over 150 lines of prose and DTD fragments that I
wrote up on this issue, last modified 2002-02 ... may as well get
some use out of it :-)
