Yes, this is important. There are things you can do in a TEI
customization which are not useable in the core TEI context.
Only of those is local overrides of global attributes. Some might argue
(Laurent Romary, stand up at the back there) that
the two uses of ODD should be 100% the same, but unfortunately they are
not in the current implementation.
Apropos of nothing, it might amuse anyone who is writing complex TEI
customizations to know that you cannot
delete a local attribute and at the same time add an attribute of the
same name to an attribute class.
