Dear TEI Community,
The TEI Technical Council has been considering a number of issues with regards
to the use of numbered and un-numbered (or generic) divisions.
The TEI, since its early days, has provided support for both numbered divisions
and un-numbered or generic divisions. This manifests itself in the existence of
both numbered div elements such as: 'div0', 'div1', 'div2', 'div3' (etc.) as
well as a generic 'div' elements.
We are reconsidering the provision of both numbered and generic div elements,
whether numbered divisions should start at div0 or div1 and related issues.
There are good technical and philosophical arguments on both sides of many of
these issues and so we wished to take an informal poll amongst the TEI community
to see how strongly it felt about these issues. We won't necessarily just go
with the majority, but want to take it into account in case it is different from
what we believe it to be.
To that end we have set up an informal and anonymous survey at:
If members of the TEI community who feel one way or another about such issues
could fill in this survey, we would appreciate it. Only the first 100 responses
will be counted.
