being in the process of lightly marking up some work by A.v. Humboldt,
I came to a paragraph (in a section about indigenous South-Am.
languages) where the author loosely lists several instances of a word,
its equivalent in that language, and the literal re-translation of it.
In one instance, the first word is missing, but again, the translation
is given with its re-translation being 'straight or vertical sun'.
Now first, the certainty that something is missing is 100 per cent,
like a blank in a table, and the best guess is that the printer had
a black-out. Secondly, the retranslation is vague enough that I can't
supply the word using <add>. But <gap> isn't applicable, either, because
I don't leave out of the transcription what exists in the original.
So, what element would be the most appropriate here?
P.S. In case you understand Tamanacu, the word is 'puirene-veju'.
