The Section of Pediatric Emergency Medicine of the Department of
Pediatrics of the University of Colorado School of Medicine is currently
recruiting for the position of Medical Director of the main campus ED at
The Children's Hospital (TCH). TCH has recently moved to the University
of Colorado Health Science Center campus at Fitzsimons in Aurora, CO.
We began operation at this $570 million free-standing children's
hospital in September 2007.
The new ED is nearly 30,000 sq ft exclusively dedicated to pediatrics.
The department includes 4 major resuscitation rooms, 2 minor procedure
rooms, 8 rooms for overnight observation and 3 secure psychiatric
evaluation rooms. In addition to 49 private patient rooms, the unit is
designed with numerous mass casualty/disaster preparedness features. ED
visits to this new facility average 60,000/yr. TCH has pioneered the
use of paperless, electronic medical documentation in a pediatric ED.
Our ED nursing staff turnover is among the lowest in the nation.
The Section has a strong tradition of excellence in teaching, clinical
care and research. Our group includes 20 faculty with board
certification in PEM, as well as 5 pediatricians and several excellent
pediatric nurse practitioners. Faculty supervise, teach and mentor
housestaff in Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine as well
as CU medical students. Clinical research is augmented by an
outstanding fellowship (6 PEM fellows) and further supported by 2 RA's
employed by the Section.
Ideal candidates will likely be mid-career PEM, promotion-track faculty
with significant administrative experience. Applicants should forward a
letter of interest and CV to:
Lou Hampers, MD, MBA
Section Chief, Pediatric Emergency Medicine

I could add here that Colorado is one of the most beautiful and
desirable places in the world to live (fantastic climate, outdoor
activities, great schools, etc)--but if you've read this far, you
probably already know that!
