Here's another option to get to the north sidewalk:
Left from Waterman onto Gano.
First right on Medway.
Left on Butler.
Cross Angell at traffic light.
First right (90 degrees right) on Nisbet.
Right at end onto Patterson, and immediate left on sidewalk.
I used to live on Nisbet St. and this is how I biked home, and this is
the route I will use now to get home to E. Prov.
You can stay on Waterman to Butler and then turn left on Butler to
Nisbet, but Medway is a much quieter street.
The Lloyd option is fine except for the left turn from Butler onto
Angell (that's Angell, not South Angell). Afternoon traffic often backs
up on Butler between the south end of Blackstone Blvd and the traffic
light at South Angell, so it may be necessary to dismount and walk
across Butler. Not the end of the world, though.
RIDOT put out an official press release yesterday detailing their
proposed detour. The release included a map of the detour and a brief
description of how cyclists were being detoured. Personally, we think
their choice to route cyclists down the sidewalk, along S. Angell St.,
between Butler and Patterson is unfortunate. So, Bike-to-Brown is
posting our own recommended detour. We offer two different outbound
routes, both of which avoid sidewalk usage as much as possible. The
route down Lloyd is slightly longer, but takes you along quieter streets
