Ooops. You're right, of course. The content model of <edition>
references macro.phraseSeq. Which does *not* include <label> any longer.
So scratch that idea for now.
I don't know where I got the idea that it did from (well actually I do,
but since he's gone home for the weekend now it seems unfair to blame
Sebastian in public)
On your other point -- that we're talking about @docStatus for a born
digital document -- I agree; but if we add this attribute to <edition>
we have to accept that this element can appear in other contexts and be
clear as to what this putative attribute might mean there.
