When we rewrote the protocols for south Florida that was discussed. The problem is thatch you truly restrict them in the protocols then they are never allowed to intubate. So if the roads are closed because of hurricanes of the patient is trapped then they have no alternative.
Instead we included language in the protocols that Intubation is a procedure of last resort only if oxygenation and ventilation is not effective via alternative methodology
