I wonder if I may ask a question to those who are more experienced with encoding than I am. In some of the manuscripts which we are encoding the scribe either squiggles over a page or strokes it though with a diagonal slant to indicate that it has been transcribed elsewhere (sometimes noting down where it has been transcribed to). One solution (out of a few, I'm sure) could be the following but is it the best one?
<delSpan rend="diagonalstrike" type="transcribed" spanTo="#delend> text here until end of "deletion" <anchor xml:id="delend">
Is this on the right track or does this count as tag abuse as it isn't really a deletion in the normal sense? Also, would such encoding be hierarchically independent of <divs> so that a "deletion" can made over a few of these, for instance.
Many thanks in anticipation of better solutions.
