"Diary" does have somewhat feminine connotations for me, but more 
importantly, a diary is a private letter to oneself. As a teenager, I kept a 
diary, several volumes of which are still on my bedroom shelf.  I would 
consider my blog, however, to be a journal (even though it isn't on 
LiveJournal), because it's often personal but only in ways I am will
