We are undertaking an RCT comparing different saline concentrations for maintenance fluids in children. We are 1/4 through 600 patients.
We would like to understand where this study fits in with current practice.
Can I ask the list members to respond to me directly to indicate what your hospital or emergency department guidelines proscribe in terms of recommended maintenance fluids in children in terms of saline and dextrose concentrations. It would be most helpful if you could email me your guideline or a relevant section of it (in any language) but even your hospital/location, type of fluid used (sodium) and dextrose concentration would be very helpful.
I will summarise the results and feed back to the list.
