Excuse my bull and red tag impression, but you've missed out the most important
step! if you find a shortcoming in the TEI, make a feature or bug request
so that the fault (if any) can be discussed and fixed. Arguments in favour
of extra attributes on <eg> would not be hard to make, I think.
Doing a local customization does not help the next 10 people who find the same
problem, and putting your changes in the customization wiki
in the hope they'll be noticed for the next version of the TEI
is not very efficient at all.
Regular viewers will recall Syd and I disagreeing on this subject
at least twice a year :-}
