Children's Acute Care is hiring an attending pediatric emergency medicine physician for our Cape Fear Valley location in Fayetteville NC. Cape Fear Valley Medical Center (CFV) is a 765-bed regional medical center that serves Fayetteville, Cumberland County and southeastern North Carolina. It is part of the Cape Fear Valley Health System The Center includes an 8-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, a 44-bed, level III NICU, and a 28-bed Pediatric Unit. The Family Birth Center delivers 4,500 infants annually. The 17-bed Pediatric Emergency Department (PED) was recently located to a newly designed patient care area in August of 2011 and has a GYN room, a Trauma/Resuscitation bay, positive and negative pressure rooms, multiple rooms with central monitoring, and the ability to provide a surge track for low-acuity patients during busy census periods. CFV does no cardiothoracic, transplant or ECMO procedures, but there is on-site support for children with orthopedic, surgical, neurosurgical, endocrine, cardiac and neurologic conditions as well as the ability to readily consult with or transport to specialists at both Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill. The hospital is also the dominant trauma services provider in the region.
The position for Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) requires that candidates be board certified in pediatrics and either BC/BE in PEM or possess extensive PEM experience. Responsibilities for PEM physicians include covering the PED, participation in program development, teaching and supervision of family practice residents and mid-level providers, and participation in quality improvement programs. Physicians can also elect to cover a Pediatric Procedural Sedation Service which does approximately 170-200 elective sedations per year.
