Pediatric Emergency Medicine in Kansas City
The Division of Emergency & Urgent Care at Children's Mercy Hospitals & Clinics (CMHC) is seeking physicians board certified/eligible in pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) interested in joining our team of over 30 accomplished PEM faculty with varied clinical and scholarly interests. This position will include clinical care at both our urban and suburban emergency departments (EDs) as well as opportunities for teaching, research and advocacy. We provide education to our PEM and child abuse fellows; pediatric, medicine/pediatric, emergency medicine, and family medicine residents; and medical students. Academic appointments are commensurate with experience through the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC).
Clinical Excellence: CMHC is the only level 1 pediatric ED and level 1 pediatric trauma center in a 150-county region in Missouri and Kansas. There are 110,000 annual visits to our two locations (65,000 urban and 45,000 suburban). Our recently expanded urban ED includes 39 exam rooms, with multiple trauma rooms and in-suite radiology/CT. We offer a "fast-track" area staffed by nurse practitioners and an ED-based clinic designed to improve the care of children with abscesses including optimal sedation/analgesia. Both locations also have bedside ultrasound availability. Support services include a critical care transport team, nurse practitioners, child life specialists, social workers, chaplains, pharmacists and respiratory therapists. A Growing Healthcare System: CMHC is one of the country's premiere free-standing, independent pediatric medical centers. We keep increasing our clinical capacity; our center now includes 317 licensed in-patient beds (soon growing to 390) and more than 40 pediatric subspecialties. CMHC has been recognized by US News and World Report in all the relevant specialties for the past decade, as well as having achieved Magnet designation for excellence in nursing. In 2012, we launched the Pediatric Care Network, a managed care system serving over 112,000 children in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Our active and innovative Quality & Clinical Safety Department is also gaining national attention. We continue to expand our institutional research capacity and capabilities, working with colleagues at UMKC, University of Kansas and the Stower's Institute.
A World Class Location: With a population of 2.5 million residents, the Kansas City metropolitan area is large and flourishing. KC's economy is driven by thousands of small businesses, tech start-ups, medical research, and large corporations such as Sprint, Hallmark, and Cerner, for which the metropolitan area is the headquarters. With one of the lowest costs of living of all major U.S. cities, KC has been rated as one of the 50 Smart Places to Live by Kiplinger's magazine. It is a community of good schools, cultural amenities, acclaimed dining and affordable living. Our professional and college sports teams are worth cheering, and KC has robust offerings in arts and entertainment including Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kemper Museum, Kaufman Performing Arts Center, Kansas City Repertory Theatre, and the Sprint Center. Most importantly, it's a community with a heart: friendly, easy-going and forward thinking.
