For those of you who work in PEDs with 24 hour coverage, what shift scheduling strategy do you use?
Does each MD have a set shift that they always work (ie, days, nights)?
Do you stay on the same shift for a few days to a week, then change to another?
Do you rotate shifts clockwise?
Do you have a set number of days off after working several overnight shifts in a row?
Or is it all just completely random?
Does anyone have any references in how do to optimal scheduling to promote physician wellness and longevity in their jobs? Do any of the shift scheduling programs help with this?
Thanks in advance!
