Thank you for being thorough. My document is more or
less self-contained: all URI refs start with '#'. There are a couple of
discontinuous elements like <quote/> which I would like to join up and
present in an index of some sort, using XSLT (TEI -> XHTML).
I figured the best way to do that is select all <quote/> elements that
lack a @prev attribute (they are actually doubly-linked in my document),
then join them with their discontinuous bits via @next.
"substring-after(@next, '#')" works well for me.
