The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS) invites applicants to apply for the position of Staff Physician within the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics. Successful applicants, whose skill sets also align well with mentoring, will have the opportunity to accept a Clinical Academic appointment with the University of Alberta. Rank will be commensurate with experience.
The division is looking to fill two 1.0 FTE positions. These positions will commence on July 1st, 2013.
The above named position would be used to fill the clinical need within the Pediatric Emergency Department. The department has recently doubled its current bed space from 12-24 beds. Along with growing volumes and increased wait times we have had to increase the number of staff on at any given time.
The Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine is affiliated with the Stollery Children’s Hospital and Alberta Health Services. The division provides 48 hours of clinical coverage a day, and sees 38,000 patients annually. The division has established research programs; an outstanding Royal College approved resident training program and collaborative relationships with other divisions and research groups at the University of Alberta.
Highly skilled child health professionals from around the world have made the Stollery Children's Hospital, a well-recognized center for specialized pediatric services. It is a full-service pediatric hospital with both a unique physical design and patient-care approach, dedicated to providing children with the best health care in Canada. It is Western Canada's referral center for pediatric cardiac surgery and national leader in organ transplantation and is home to more than 160 physicians and 900 health care professionals.

Interested applicants should hold an MD or equivalent and be eligible for licensure in Alberta, have a fellowship in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, and have demonstrated clinical leadership and scholarly accomplishment in research and/or teaching.
