can you articulate what disturbs you about the idea, aside from unfamiliarity (which may matter if you have to maintain it)?
possible concerns are
- uneven performance (because it depends on the client browser doing all the work)
- scaleability to huge texts (hard to tell if thats an issue or not, but plainly memory in the client _may_ be an issue)
- accessibility (people who don't or can't use JS)
so that depends on an analysis of your project. my view would start from the assumption they
are not show-stoppers.
I can't comment on backbone.js at all, but i like the sound of what I read about it
