The University of Chicago’s Department of Pediatric Emergency Medicine is recruiting a full-time faculty with training and expertise in pediatric emergency medicine and pediatric critical care. Responsibilities will include patient care, with a focus on complex patients transitioning from the emergency room to the intensive care unit, and teaching. Research opportunities are available, and candidates with research interests are preferred.
The faculty in the Sections of Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Pediatric Critical Care have diverse clinical and academic interests, and each Section supports a fellowship training program. The Pediatric Emergency Section, the only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center on the south side of Chicago, treats more than 30,000 patients a year. It is a free-standing facility comprised of 22 general exam rooms, two procedure rooms, two triage rooms and two trauma/resuscitation rooms. The Pediatric Critical Care Section's clinical responsibilities include providing medical care for approximately 1,500 medical and surgical patients a year admitted to a 30-bed state-of-the-art PICU, providing sedation to more than 2,500 patients annually for diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures and offsite intensive care services.
Prior to the start of employment successful candidates must: 1) have a MD degree, or equivalent, 2) have completed an ACGME-accredited pediatric emergency medicine fellowship, 3) have completed an ACGME-accredited pediatric critical care fellowship, 4) be board certified/eligible in pediatric emergency medicine, 5) be board certified/eligible in pediatric critical care, 6) hold or be eligible for permanent State of Illinois medical licensure, and 7) be able to demonstrate excellence in clinical teaching at the medical student, resident, and fellow levels.
