Glad you asked and excellent timing!
We just published a review in Pediatrics on this very topic. Many EDs use dexamethasone as part of their asthma protocol and we traditionally have not. A few of our providers feel strongly about using dexamethasone for asthma exacerbations and so we decided to perform a meta-analysis.
Dexamethasone appears to have equal efficacy, though with the caveat that there are few single dose studies available. Children experience less vomiting at home and in the ED when receiving dexamethasone.
