Cohen Children’s Medical Center of NY (CCMC) (located on the Queens/Long Island border) is currently seeking full-time Pediatric Emergency Medicine physicians. Interested applicants must be Pediatric Emergency Medicine sub-board certified or sub-board eligible. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and achievement. Additionally, we are seeking pediatric emergency medicine physicians interested in per diem shifts.
CCMC is part of the NS-LIJ Health System. The division recently moved into a brand new state of the art free standing children’s hospital on the Long Island Jewish Medical Center campus. The new ED has 30 beds plus 2 trauma rooms, 2 rapid assessment rooms and a separate pediatric behavioral Health area staffed by Pediatric Psychiatrists.
CCMC provides tertiary/quaternary care to children throughout the New York metropolitan area, has a full complement of pediatric medical and surgical sub-specialists and is a regional pediatric trauma center. CCMC has over 45,000 visits a year with an admission rate of 16% and an additional 12,000 patients seen at our hospital based urgent care facility.
NS-LIJ is the home for the Hofstra-NSLIJ School of Medicine. The Division of Emergency Medicine provides pediatric emergency training for the Pediatric and Emergency Medicine residencies of CCMC, LIJ Medical Center and North Shore University Hospital. There is a Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship-training program at CCMC with 8 fellows (9 in July 2015). A PEM U/S fellowship is currently being put together with a goal of a July 2015 implementation.
There are 3 positions being offered:
1. Director of Research:
a) This position requires the applicant to be well rounded in research methods and application as well as proficient, experienced and successful in grant writing. Although the position is for clinical time to be done at CCMC, research oversight will be for the PEM service line and encompass pediatric related research done at the community sites in collaboration with the NS-LIJ Emergency Medicine service line.
2. CCMC based clinical attending:
a.) This position requires an experienced PEM attending and is for clinical shifts within the children’s hospital with opportunities in the community hospital ED’s if desired. Clinical time may be reduced if academic and administrative responsibilities are taken on.
3. CCMC/community hospital based clinical attending
a.) This position requires a BE/BC PEM attending and includes clinical shifts within CCMC and one of our community ED sites. Non-clinical activities are available if the applicant has interest.
