For immunocompetent children with a central venous catheter, when they present with fever do you recommend empiric IV antibiotics (CTX, presumably)? I would say a blood culture is mandatory but in the well appearing chid with normal CBC, is it necessary to "cover" with antibiotics?
Appreciate any input.
