I'm with you Mike.
Speed is also my biggest vice and I dont let the notion of what type of TBI or other debilitating injury could occur (and has) from my activities, or others for that matter, change anything I do. But I think Gene is right, at least for me, I always find myself envisioning "oh boy, thats gonna end up in a 25 stitcher at some point" when I see the high schooler doing something close to the envelope.
I think his point is seeing others performing actions that mimic the common mechanisms of injury we see every day gives us a little pause when it is our loved ones. Personality and judgement determines whether we act on them to protect or over protect.
