Hi everyone. I wanted to see if there is any consensus regarding Rapid Sequence MRI vs. CT scan for evaluation of headaches, head trauma and appendicitis. I realize you may be at an institution where you don't often do MRI or CT scan for appendicitis evaluation, so I am only inquiring as to WHEN you need to do an advanced radiological test, which do you do? Also, do you use any sort of age cut off for MRI vs CT? I realize that many institutions may have limited access to 24/7 MRI from the ED, so you can include that limitation in your reply.
So, my questions:
1. Head Trauma? Rapid MRI or CT? Age criteria?
2. Headache that you feel needs imaging for whatever reason.... Rapid MRI or CT? Age criteria?
3. Evaluation for appendicitis where you feel advanced imaging is needed? Rapid MRI or CT? Age criteria?
Many thanks! Individual replies are fine with me.
