I as well am reading and hearing more about MRI's for appendicitis...intriguing... 
However, even with a rapid scan per say, how are you getting littler ones to sit still and not freak out, even with child life...R U sedating these kiddos?
Again, what about checking your history, clinical exam, WBC and CRP, and your re exam, take all of that data together, not just one component, and make a team decision form there, home and follow up, admit with surgery consult, or prepare for OR.... 
This is not meant to sound snooty in any way...
I also totally get that surgeons want certain protocols...not against it...especially for the not clear cut cases...longer history, comorbidities, etc...
But for the "ROUTINE"  cases, like noted in this email...I just have a question mark over my head.
