The Department of Emergency Medicine at New York-Presbyterian, Brooklyn Methodist Hospital still has available Pediatric Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship positions for the 2018-2019 academic year. This is a unique opportunity for Pediatric Emergency Medicine physicians to become leaders in the rapidly expanding field of Pediatric Point-of-Care Ultrasound in the largest Emergency Ultrasound program in the country.
New York Methodist Hospital has an academic affiliation with New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell. It is located in Park Slope, Brooklyn and is a busy urban trauma center that sees over 115,000 patients per year with a diverse patient population. There is a separate Pediatric Emergency Department, with an active PEM fellowship, with 2 PEM fellows per year and a volume of approximately 30,000 pediatric patients per year.
New York-Presbyterian, Brooklyn Methodist Hospital has a robust Emergency Ultrasound Division and Fellowship program. The Division of Emergency Ultrasound is directed under Dr. Gerardo Chiricolo. The Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship is co-directed by Dr. Samuel Ayala and Dr. Maya Lin and Pediatric Emergency Ultrasound is directed by Dr. Sharon Yellin. There are currently 8 Emergency Ultrasound fellows, with 3 dedicated Pediatric Emergency Ultrasound Fellows. We have 15 Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship-trained faculty with 4 Pediatric Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship-trained faculty.
The 1-year Pediatric Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship position is open to those who are board-certified or board-eligible in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. The Pediatric Emergency Ultrasound Fellow will be integrated into the adult Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship Program, where they will receive comprehensive training in both adult and pediatric-specific applications. They will also have specific scanning shifts in the Pediatric Emergency Department and have dedicated sessions with the 4 Pediatric Emergency Ultrasound faculty. The overall goal of the fellowship, is to train an enthusiastic individual to become an expert in the field of Pediatric Point-of-Care Ultrasound, who ultimately will be able to develop their own ultrasound division. The fellow’s time will be divided between clinical duties in the Pediatric Emergency Department and dedicated ultrasound time for hands-on scanning shifts, weekly QA sessions, and performing an original ultrasound research project. Since we have such a robust faculty with extensive teaching experience, fellows will have unique opportunities to teach at courses locally, nationally, and internationally.
